“The Claisebrook Challenge”

Our Indian Ocean Crew joins other dragon boat crews to compete in the 12km return race from Maylands to Claisebrook Cove. Entry Fees are donated to Telethon for Perth Children’s Hospital.

Although this is a fun event, paddling is competitive with teams racing the clock and each other to be first to enter Claisebrook Cove…first under the bridge has right of way for the sharp turn, testing the Sweep’s skill to bring the boat to a complete stop at the jetty to collect a flag, before racing away on the return leg of the race. Teams increase the power and speed as they near the finish line trying to shave a few important seconds off individual race time.

Off the water dragon boat crews mingle with each other for a friendly interaction over a barbeque and drinks.
