Regattas
During the summer Regatta season crews compete in sprint racing to accrue points in the Grand Prix competition.
These are held at the purpose-built regatta centre at Champion Lakes.
Each boat is fitted with a dragon head, with bulging eyes and sharp teeth at the front and a golden tail at the stern.
The sides are decorated with dragon scales. The drummer sits on a highchair at the front, beating out the tempo set by the front Paddlers, known as ‘Strokes’.
Racing allows lots of paddling opportunities in Women, Mixed, Open categories in crews of 10 or 20 Paddlers. The races are 200m, 500m and special 1km and 2km events. Crews enter appropriate events for their Paddlers. It’s a great social day with Paddlers mingling between races and enjoying the colourful mix of team tents, banners and bright team uniforms.
